Hermes on sale

Nope, that's not a typo. French fashion house Hermes DOES have sales! Before you get too excited, the Recessionista must caveat that leather handbags NEVER go on sale. But if you've got the frequent flier miles to get yourself to New York City, you can participate in a phenomenal accessory sale. You see, twice a year Hermes hosts a sale in NYC: once in the February/March timeframe, and again in the September/October timeframe.

The sale is open to the public but NOT at the boutiques and NOT nationwide. The location is the Metro Pavilion on West 18th Street off 6th Avenue. The first day of each sale is invitation-only, followed by 4 days of public availability. What you'll find:

• Classic silk twill scarves at 40% off retail -- and if you're lucky and hang out by the stockroom door, you MIGHT score a cashmere shawl or chiffon scarf
• Fragrances, lotions and soaps for Recessionistas and Recessionistos alike for a fraction of retail
• Housewares including china and ashtrays that were never meant for ashes
• Small leather goods from belts to gloves
• Shoes which are remarkably comfortable because Hermes shoes are designed under the watchful eye of podiatrists
• RTW for men and women
• Baby gifts

This spring's sale is open to the public beginning Wednesday March 25.
